SP init – Launching SoftwarePolitik

Life is full of nuances, not dichotomies. I constantly remind myself of this whenever an emotion tries to overwhelm me and make me think in black-and-white terms. Choices in an election, opinions, or ways of thinking are not binary, no matter how much some of our peers insist on proving otherwise. There are always nuances that break such rigid mental structures. So, blessed be the nuances!, because they enrich our understanding and allow us to see the diversity and complexity of the world around us. Recognizing and accepting them not only makes us more tolerant and understanding, but also gives us the opportunity to broaden our perspectives and knowledge, and find more creative and effective solutions to the problems we face daily, both individually and, most importantly, collectively.

This is what my life experience is mostly about: nuances that break pre-established dichotomies. As an ordinary person in this reality, I have encountered an infinite range of perspectives and complexities. As a software developer and political scientist, I have learned that both in computing and politics, the most effective solutions are not absolute but those that consider the nuances and diversity of contexts. Every line of code and every political analysis has taught me that true understanding and progress arise when we move away from simplistic views and embrace the richness of the subtle.

My name is Alberto Calles, better known as Alberka, and today I humbly and warmly present myself to start a project that I have had in mind for a long time. This adventure stems from the conviction that there is always more to learn and the certainty that learning is a continuous and endless journey. We are all eternal learners with different experiences, and we can always learn from everything and everyone.

In this project, I will merge two of my great passions: computing and politics. Although they are seemingly different disciplines, they are deeply intertwined:

  • On the one hand, computing, loved and hated at the same time, with its capacity to transform our way of living and working, present in all the daily processes of our day-to-day life, has become the vital fabric of modern society. Although it has been an integral part of our lives for several decades, it remains largely unknowable to most, understood only by a few while the rest simply use it without considering its full potential.
  • On the other hand, politics, with its influence on the organization and functioning of our societies, is fundamental to human development. What can be said about it that hasn’t been said before? It is an ambiguous and encompassing subject, with a great controversy and divisive force since the beginning of time. Perhaps it is one of the worst-managed and misunderstood disciplines by humanity throughout its existence. The distribution of resources, decision-making, and the allocation of power, among other issues, transcend over time in all societies and, in one way or another, have forever marked their past, present, and future.

“Politics encompasses everything, and so does computing.”

Through this space, I want to explore how these two areas can complement each other and generate innovative solutions to the problems we face today. My intention is to blend these disciplines in my own way, sharing my perspective of the world and recognizing that it is only one among many. I want to invite all those interested in joining this adventure to share their own visions and enrich this journey of continuous learning. Together, we can discover new ways of thinking and acting, and apply our knowledge for the common good.

Therefore, today, October 2, 2024, I decide to start this project with great enthusiasm.

Welcome to SoftwarePolitik.
